My history with the hospitality industry goes back to when my family bought our first hotel over 20 years ago. While most kids spent summers at the pool, I spent them folding laundry, making beds, and dialing sales calls.
After spending a few years in the technical industry working at organizations like Raytheon and Twitter, I started speaking with hotel owners across the country - hundreds of them. One issue kept coming up: they were tired of paying 20% commissions to major OTAs. That cost eats into their margins and pushes prices up for guests.
So, I built EventHotelGuide: a way for hotels to sell unfilled rooms around specific local events at better rates, without the OTA markup. Guests get discounts. Hotels keep more of the revenue. Best of all, the service is completely free for travelers.
